In an effort to help preserve our local marine environment, I have decided to host this years annual Beach and Underwater Clean Up Day.
Volunteer divers will be diving for trash to clean up the ocean and non diver volunteers will be picking up trash topside and passing out brochures to spread awareness.
At the end of the event, we will sort and tally our collection and haul it off for recycling. Any and all proceeds will be donated to Welcome to Project AWARE in an effort to help the global cause.
I'm working on getting local vendors to donate beverages and snacks for the volunteers during this event and there may even be some prizes! So not only is it a great excuse to grab your gear and hit the water; but it will also be a fun and rewarding way to meet new people, while helping to protect the environment we all love so much!
For more details on participating in this volunteer community event please contact PM me.
See you on the bottom!
Date: September 20th 2008
Time: 10:00 AM – 2:00PM
Place: Breakwater and Mcabee Beaches in Monterey CA.
Cost: FREE!!
Diver and non diver volunteers are needed for this clean up event to happen!
Together we can create a legacy for a better tomorrow!

Reason: By request
Yes I would love to have a designated photographer for some topside pictures as well as some good underwater action shots showing the divers collecting the trash. I will use the photos for next years event and will also be forwarding them on to Project Aware Foundation along with the data, results and monies collected. Who knows, they may decide to use them too for future marketing materials!
Thank you in advance for participating and I can't wait to see and meet you all there!!

Since we might be having some out of towners for this, I will see if I can get a local hotel to give a discount to any volunteers wishing to stay overnight in Monterey. Stay tuned...

All divers need to confirm participation before the day and will be required to bring their diver certification card, all gear needed for the dives and sign an Underwater Liability Release Form.
I'm working on getting mesh fin bags donated for the event, but since this is still in the works and not confirmed at this time I am requesting that all divers try to bring one with them.
