Pittsburgh Scubapalooza

A 2 day event, December 6th & 7th, offering the latest in dive information, gear demonstrations, seminars, and featuring world famous shipwreck authors Gary Gentile and Richie Kohler.

On Saturday December 6th at The Pittsburgh Scuba Center :

Jim Black, noted marine photographer, will be offering his underwater photo workshop. Jim will demonstrate his equipment and offer tips on getting the right shot. (Free)

Christopher Laughery, technical dive Instructor, and NAUI Tech course director, will present his cave diving workshop. (Free)

Pete Nawrocky, Underwater photographer and rebreather Instructor will demonstrate the Optima rebreather from Dive Rite. (Free)

Richie Kohler, is one of the world’s most accomplished and well-known wreck divers. He was a co-host of History Channel's Deep Sea Detectives. His 1991 discovery and subsequent identification of the German submarine U-869 off the coast of New Jersey has been the subject of several television documentaries. Richie will be hosting his Technical Shipwreck Diving Workshop at our shop on Saturday afternoon from 3:00 till 6:00pm. Fee $79.00 and because seating for this workshop is limited, advanced registration is required.

Openhouse and meet the authors: From 6:00pm till 8:00 pm there will be a meet the authors reception at Pittsburgh Scuba Center. Pittsburgh Scuba Center - Home Gary Gentile and Richie Kohler will be on the premises for book signings.

Sunday, December 7th at the IBEW Ball room, 5 Hot Metal Street • Pittsburgh, PA 15203, a day long celebration of Scuba diving. Fee $30.00, advanced registration is required.

Jim Black, a photographic exhibition of creatures around the world, from around the world diving...from S. Africa to Egypt to Indonesia to Thailand to Australia to PNG.

Simon Tripp, technical diver, will present a report on his recent dive trip to the “Empress of Ireland”.

Gary Gentile has written 51 books, published over 3,000 photographs and discovered over 40 shipwrecks. Gary’s last visit to Pittsburgh was 2 years ago and we’ve been eager to have him back ever since. Enter the wild, exciting, and exotic world of Gary Gentile: author, lecturer, photographer, explorer, and deep-sea wreck-diver. Enter a world of adventure and thrills tempered by poetry and subtle beauty. Gary will take you to shipwrecks, show you marine life, and explore the great outdoors the way no one else can.

Pete Nawrocky an avid underwater photographer will present his display of underwater photography from North Carolina to the St. Lawrence Seaway.

Mike Convery, Pittsburgh Scuba Center, will show a report on their recent trip to the Galapagos Islands.

Christopher Laughery, technical course director for NAUI and cave diving Instructor will show how cave diving techniques can be used in shipwreck exploration.

Richie Kohler will be our keynote speaker and will be available for questions afterward.

Just a side note to this. This is going to be a real nice event with the idea that it does become an annual thing. The more people who show the more chance we have of adding content for next year.
 
Another update. We have added a dive computer presentation by one of our instructors here at the shop. There will also be info available regarding the new SEI agency(Scuba Educators International). Either Tom Leaird or myself will be available to answer questions
 
Further info on this show. start times for saturday's events is 10AM at the shop. Sunday's events begin at 9:30 am. The IBEW Hall is two blocks down from the shop at Hot Metal St and Carson. Hope to see alot of you there!
