We worked the IAHD-Americas booth there and thought the show was great! Fewer overall attendees the last two years but the ones that came were of a higher quality. A bit of a recession helps keep the 'tire kickers' away.

    Dema...

Well, interesting little group on infoids... Firstly if one were to go back about another 20 years you woulb be very supprised to see that DEMA has shruk even more dramatically. I may be wrong, likely not, but I remember the Scuba Pro stopped "doing DEMA" before 2004. Now keeping myh fiorst post brief remember that all the internet stuff wasn't out there and you couldn't go on line and place and order etc. OK, certainly DEMA (one know as the Diving Equipt Manufuctures Association)
Now Diving Equiptment and Marketing Association. the have had their pains as the need for the BiG Show became less important as the vendors did more smaller shows etc. Now, lets look at politics about the admin of DEMA. Changes in the Board structure were dictated for means other that the best interest in diving. That is an arugable point but don't forget that the loss of J.C. (John Cronin) opened a bad basket of stuff. DEMA became a cavaet intensive event. People jockeying for power to benefit themselves and missing the point. Today, we have a more than able gent as Pres. Jim Byrem, who will guide the industry ahead and did good work as a board member. BTW, don't let the Tough Guy USMC LTC (Ret.) put you off.... he has mellowed alot since retireing from the corps, taking and IDC, and moving to Hawaii.

DEMA, has its place but due to the information super hiway it is not as overtly focused for most to see. They are still fighting a good fight and doing well!

Dema, I suppose, was in its peak from the mid 80' to the late 90's..
As to the stats above.. Too narrow and don't take into account all the regional shows that ploiferate. Oh, sure the budget is gone but life goes on!
Conducting ITC's before we had slides for the course!
Now that is why there were only about 200 CD in the OLDen days...
