During the last year I missed good portion of the diving season here in the Northeast US due to the unusually high, for me at least, frequency of “swimmer’s ear” episodes that I had. As a result I was getting a lot of earache, trouble equalizing, liquid in the ears, otitis, etc. My doctor told me that I should look up something called “Doc’s Pro Earplugs” specifically made for scuba divers (there ones made for surface swimmers also). Apparently they are very good in prevention ear problems for scuba divers such as swimmer’s ear, otitis, make it easier to equalize, etc.
Has anyone tried these? I would really appreciate your opinion and experience with these.
Thanks

I used the ones for surfing. Used them once or twice and they were terrible and I decided to just take my chances. Couldn't hear a thing, my ears got wet any way and the noise from the wind and waves was something else. I figured i'd probably loose my hearing if I carried on.

Never dived with any of them so can't help you with the dive ones but my experience of the surf ones is enough to put me off. I guess for the price they may be worth a try but they certainly aren't for me.

They're great. Get the fitting kit and then order up a couple of pairs of the ---> red vented plugs. The clear ones are too easy to lose.

They are worth the $11 bucks .i had trouble equilizing and i tried them glad i did........

I asked this same question on another scuba forum after seeing an advert for them in Alert Diver. Two of the people that responded actually use them on a regular basis and just love them! Based on this positive feedback, I'll definitely ask my ENT specialist about them when I see him next month. (My right ear is a nightmare to equalize. :()

Mod,

Please move this to Diving Medicine. Sorry for placing it here. Still new to the board.

I use them, and I love them. I had issues for a long time equalizing my ears, and this has pretty much solved that problem! For as inexpensive as they are, its DEFINETLEY worth it.

There is another alternative called the IST Pro ear mask. This has covers for the ears and has proved very popular amongst people who have ear probs at my dive centre
