    Freediving courses?

    Hey guys!

Im a student down here in Boca Raton, FL and I've heard a lot about how any serious freediver should take a class in order to really have a safe and strong understanding of the sport.

I was just wondering what kind of options are available down here in south florida. If you guys know of any good instructors/classes or have taken any down here let me know what you've heard/thought of them! As Isaid though, I am a college student so price is a heavy consideration.

    Thanks!

i don't know an answer, but you could also try trace malinowski (tracemalin on this board). he's not in fl, but he might have some recommendations, or he might be coming to fl when it would be good for you. he's an excellent instructor in scuba and i bet he's as good instructing freediving.

I'll be doing Trace's freediving course later this year (once the waters warm up ), I just haven't worked out whether to take it at someplace like Gilboa or add the additional cost of taking it in Florida.

Check out Freediving Instructors International. They have an outstanding reputation and are here is SE Florida. They are just a few miles South of you in Pompano Beach. It's taught by a competitive freediver that has broken several world records. The course is not cheap, however, I doubt you can find better freedivng instruction than this no matter where you go. Most people start with their level 2 course and they put a very big emphasis on safety.

Yea the Freediving Instructors International looked really interesting but as you said is just a bit too expensive for me. I figured most of the courses would be out of my price range but I wanted to see what was out there.

I worked at a dive shop (Divers Direct) for a year and a half and read most of the few books we had on freediving and Ive researched the sport a lot on forums and stuff (yea I love the articles on deeperblue!). I guess thatll have to do me for now.

If anybody here in south florida wants to go freediving though, def hit me up!!! I'll be down to dive anywhere!
