I would love to learn the basics of free diving.

I know that basically you hold your breath and then swim down. That is all I know.

Is there anywhere on Oahu that teaches the basics in a day or few?
 
There's an active freediving crowd on the Big Island, I'd imagine the same holds for Oahu. Cruising some of the freedive websites might produce some leads.
 
Are you a spearo? If so, Hawaii Skin Diver forums are the best place to go. That said, I think most people are still self-trained (myself included)... Not the best route, but there you go.
