I am the marine technial specialist at UCLA. We have a couple of installations in Santa Monica Bay. One is our shore station located under the Santa Monica Pier. The other is our mooring located 5 miles off of Pt Dume. We often need AAUS certified divers to work on our instruments. This included installs, removals, maintenence, and cleaning. We get to the mooring site with our vessel the Seaworld UCLA located in marina del rey, which has a compressor to fill tanks and showers on board. Most of the immediate work will be at the mooring.

Please post replies if you are AAUS approved, and interested in helping out.

(I am new to this site and not sure of the best contact method. Do spiders suck your email out of these posts?)

Thanks,
Levanto Schachter

What days and times are you looking for divers. How long are you going out (ie. 6 hours 3 tanks)? Can you post a little about your project (what your looking to accomplish)?
As far as I know I am AAUS. I just volunteer dont put much thought into certification. I dive with the Santa Monica Baykeeper kelp restoration project. You might try hitting up some of those groups asking to "borrow" divers.

Good luck!

The big project right now is our mooring. We have an instrument on the mooring about 15 feet down that we need to take off the mooring to repair. The dive should be about an hour total. though it takes 1.5 hours to get to the site. Underwater it is a matter of working with nuts and bolts, and bringing the instrument to the surface which weighs about 9 lbs under water. AAUS certification is a must and your DSO has to give a letter of reciprocity to our DSO to bake the dive possible. We plan to do the dive either friday or saturday, if possible. The next dive would be a week or two later to put the instrument back on the mooring.
