I've started this new thread for planning purposes.

I'll keep updating this first post as a synopsis of the info in this thread and will include links to other Wrinkles threads for easy reference.

When: Saturday, Aug. 12
Where: Los Angeles County, PV/Redondo area - Veteran's Park

What is the Wrinkles Dive?

This is a monthly gathering of all divers and non-divers in SoCal who can make it. It's a lot of fun involving diving, eating, socializing and now even camping!

It all started when our SoCal member, Wrinkles, mentioned to a group that she dove with that it would be really fun to be able to get together at least once a month. Pasley, took off with the idea and announced the first "Wrinkles Dive". The rest is history!

It's open to everyone of all skill levels from "I'm not certified yet" to "Do we really have to dive the Andrea Doria again?"

We've found this to be a great way to meet our fellow divers locally and many new dive buddies have been found though these "dive soirees".

Parking Info:

Bring Plenty of quarters if you want to park in the metered lot at Veteran's Park!

The parking meters give you 15 min. per quarter, so figure on $1 per hour and they are in operation 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

If you park under the pier in the underground structure you don't need to use quarters and it it goes to a maximum of $7.50. The entrance is on Torrance and you run right into it if you just keep driving on Torrance toward the water. It's about a 1/4 mile walk from the underground structure to Veteran's Park, but not as bad as the walk from the parking structure to the beach at Montage/Treasure Island in Laguna.

Mom, my sister and some of her kids are coming out from Michigan and Florida so this is one I won't make. Have fun.

wrinkles:
I just tried to make reservations and they have NONE!!!!!!!
Unless someone else has already made a reservation we snoozed on this one.

I'll keep trying every day for a couple of weeks to see if there are any cancellations. Maybe we can all try at different times everyday and we'll get lucky. We probably need a reservation for 2 sites for Fri, Sat, and Sunday. I'll also need to check to see if they set aside a certain number or campgrounds for walk-ups.

If there are no cancellations and they don't have anything set aside for walk-ups then we may want to choose another spot for this Wrinkles Dive.

I'm open to suggestions.

Christian

Leo is a nice spot - what about trying to exchange dates with the Sept. or Oct. Wrinkles if the have camping slots on one of those dates?

Jim

FYI ... some out of state SB members have made plans to be in the San Diego area for the scheduled Sept Wrinkles Dive in La Jolla.

We could continue to try to get a site with everyone trying to catch a cancellation for the next couple of weeks and then do a swap at that time if it doesn't work.

If we swapped, we could just keep the rotation through L.A. the same and just change this one to Redondo and the December dive to Leo Carrillo. This would keep from negatively effecting the plans of any out of state SB members.

We've had fantastic weather at Leo Carrillo every time we've done one of these campouts in December as you can see by reading the following links to these threads.

December '04 Wrinkles Dive at Leo Carrillo

December '05 Wrinkles Dive at Leo Carrillo

I'm still holding out hope that we'll be able to squeeze in when someone cancels a reservation.

Christian

I like the Redondo plan with Leo in December. I went to Leo in December 05 as my first Wrinkles and it was great - would like to get my own campsite and stay the weekend.

Of course if we get cancellations - go with that. Dove Leo last week - conditions were OK to marginal. Last December we had 15+ ft viz, almost no surge, and minimal surf.

Of course recent reports from Redondo have been kind of marginal too, but with a south swell we have that.
