Hi-
I'll be in San Diego with my girlfriend in a few days and we're hopping to get in some diving while in town (perhaps two boat trips). We're both recently advanced certified with PADI and have done most of our diving in New England (Cape Ann). Having read up on the diving in SD, I think we're both most interested in doing some kelp diving. Would also be interested in some wrecks (non-penetrated, perhaps 100' depth). Does anyone have any suggestions for (1) good dive charters, (2) good dive sights, (3) good (and cheap!) dive shops (we're bringing our gear, but will need to rent tanks/weights)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Check out the Lois Ann and Dive Bliss charters. Both have good crews. San Diego Discount Divers Supply has fair prices and they are close to the charter boats. You can find a complete listing of San Deigo charters and shops in the link section of
www.scubapost.net.

Enjoy our local flavor.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've booked for two days with Lois Ann (8/1 and 8/4). The dives include a few kelp dives and the Coronados Islands. I guess the wrecks will have to wait for the next trip . . .

I second the Lois Ann. Carl is a good captain and very willing to make your dive safe and fun. i just did 6 dives last week on the boat (wrecks) and was pleased with great vis.. The trips you will take will give you a good view of CA. diving. If you feel like a long surface swim LaJolla Shores or the Marine room will take you into the canyon. Might see some Leopard sharks, rays and flat fish too. Good luck and enjoy our great diving. There are many good shope in SD, San Diego Divers Supply, Sport Chalet (good hours for tank rentals) etc.
