We are thinkig of visiting the Island in February 2008. I have heard that there are dive packages available that include hotel, transport to/from the Island, and a 2 tank boat dive. Does anyone know anything about these? The info I found was not very comprehensive. Thanks
Many of the hotels on Catalina will bundle the boat + transportation + hotel room for you. We use the Seaport Village 3 times a year in conjunction with the wrinkles dives which include everything besides diving. It's a good hotel and their very friendly. I'd suggest you give them a call, mention ScubaBoard and see what they can do for you.
For boats, there's only a few options on the island and if you call them directly, they may be able to get you a package with the hotel as well.
Shannon and I went through Catalina Scuba-luv, Dr bill hewre on the board also goes out with them and we had a great time and were well taken care of by them!!
Certainly SCUBA Luv (my LDS) wil be happy to set up a dive package for you. Check their website at www.scubaluv.biz. In fairness, Catalina Divers Supply can also create packages. However, in my opinion their boat is an open deck boat which makes for chilly winter diving whereas SCUBA Luv's King Neptune has a heated salon to keep toasty in.
I second the opinion about Seaport Village Inn, you won't find anyplace that does so much for you, that's more diver friendly, hauling your gear to the dive park or boats, or that gives such a great discount to ScubaBoard members ...
and I have no experience with Catalina Divers Supply , but I would go with DrBill's suggestion about Scuba Luv and the heated area for a possibly chilly February surface interval
