My girlfriend and I will be in Ventura from April 25th to May 1st. She isn't a diver so I'm looking for dive buddies. Thinking about boat dives, shore dives, bug hunts. Suggestions of good charters and dive spots would be appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from and meeting divers in Ventura area.
Thanks,
Steve.

First off you'll be missing bug season it ends March 15th, here's a link to the dive boats in So Cal. If you'd like to try beach diving while you're here I'm sure you can hook up with some of the So Cal crew.
You will have no problem getting wet... our own: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/beach-crabs/ dives alot in the Ventura area... so remind us few weeks before and I'm sure there will be those to dive with... and the link that John meant to give you: California Dive Boats : The Official Page .
IMHO 2 of the 5 best dive boats in So.Cal. are docked in Ventura... Peace and Spectre... and they may have multi-day trips then and mid. week trips. Just let us know when time gets closer.

. Opinions are like gas;
You're entitled to have some, but people appreciate if you keep it to yourself when it stinks!
I'm sure as it gets closer to the time you'll be here, there will be many opportunities to dive....whether it's boat diving or shore diving. Keep us posted on your schedule and what you would prefer to do. I'm sure there will be multiple people available to dive with you (we're always looking for more reasons to get out there diving!).

Thanks everybody. I knew I could count on the dive community to come through. Thanks for the links. I've heard good things about both boats. Sorry I'll miss bug season. Maybe I'll get to San Diego for a weekend dive before it ends. I'll only have 6 tanks with me in April so I'll need the name of a local dive shop for fills.
I'll keep you posted as my plans develop. Looking forward to meeting all y'all.
Steve.

In Ventura harbour where the Peace and Spectre are, there is a dive shop located in central area of the mall. It's called Ventura Dive and Sport. Don't have the number handy, but just do a search.

Hey Steve why are you taking so many tanks? You only need 2 maybe 3 tops there's always a dive shop near by & most of the boats have compressors.
John
I didn't know if the boat trips include tanks and I didn't want to have to run to the dive shop every day for fills. 6 tanks = a couple of good dive-days. I usually take 4 tanks to the lake, 6 if I'll be there all weekend .
But you're probably right. My girlfriend will need SOME room for her luggage.
Steve.

Keep us posted. I only do boat dives (thus far) and I would love to join in. It's hard to beat the Peace or the Spectre. But don't neglect diving a bit further south toward LA area and go to Catalina Island (the Great Escape or the Magician are top picks for down there).
