Cynthia from Monterey was in town for the UTD Adventure day, and so Jamie and I took her diving to Casino Point on Sunday.
It was chilly and windy when we got to the (thankfully) uncrowded point, but the water was flat and looked pretty blue.
As we geared up I realized I had neglected to dry the inside of my drysuit after the previous days flood, so I had quite a bit of water inside and only 1/2 a P-valve, so instantly the planned number of dives looked a little thin ...
We gave Cynthia a brief overview of the park, and planned to make our way out to the Sujac for the first dive.
The water looked awesome from the surface, as we descended through a pretty good school of fish (of some various varieties)
We quickly made our way to the Sujac with Jamie's excellent navigation
Cynthia on the Sujac
Jammers ...
Unfortunately I had rather the wrong lens to get any good shots of the Giant Kelpfish
Toward the end of a decent SI (where I actually started to feel the warmth eat through the dampness of my socks), we were just gearing up when a guy approached us and asked to buddy up.
I do admit my first though given the recent "Drifting Dan" verdict was "Hella no" but the guy was really nice (and a little persistent) and finally we relented and waited for him to gear up.
This dive, the plan was to visit the glass-bottom wrecks, the swim platform and then come back via the logs/pipes
Once more the water was awesome...
Our new buddy "Pedro"
Our visit to the glass bottom boat was canceled however, when we saw THIS slowly swimming toward us
...approximately the biggest ray I ever saw. It was one of the "sleepy" ones that likes to pose for pictures, and I got quite a few.
On the way back from the pipes, jammers did an awesome spot on two decent-sized Octos under the pipes. Sadly, once again wrong lens...
Once one the surface (thankfully all intact and present), we de-geared and headed off for some bloody marys and Italian food.
A quick nap on the ferry to make up for two insanely early (for me) mornings and we were home.
Thanks to Cynthia and pedro (and of course Jammers) for an awesome day diving !
