I am going to Avalon tomorrow through Wednesday (March 30 -April 1), and I am trying to remain optimistic about the diving conditions despite the big northern swell that is moving in. Has anybody heard what the vis was like at the Casino today? I will take as little as 10 feet, I just want to get wet.

Just returning to the island tomorrow from 2 1/2 weeks in Palau so I haven't dived Casino Point in about a month.

I would love to hear followups on the status of the kelp recovery there. I have a family vacation planned there in June:D

There is no kelp in the dive park as waters remain unseasonably warm and the invasive sargassum really has a foothold. That said the viz is substantially better than normal.

Going back to the island Saturday. I'll let you know. Last weekend was still low 60's.

61F at 60 ft yesterday outside the park, with a bit of thermocline and 58F at 70feet. Still warm and clear, and still no kelp anywhere. I did find some stragler stalks at 75-80 ft but not enough or anywhere to do any good for the reefs. .

Wow, I've never seen the park with zero kelp! thanks for the update. We hope to get out there before to long. last there in September of 2013.
