Love That Dirty Water

I've been surprised on a few occasions when the dive conditions were decent following a couple days of rain and high surf. Today was the rule rather than the exception.
The ocean was calm enough to head to the south side of Palos Verdes. As we approached Rocky Point I saw three Gray whales, a Mother and calf with a male escort surface in the kelp. As I tried to put my motors into neutral my port motor refused to cooperate. I had to turn the key and forego our excursion to Little Reef.
As we limped back on one motor I told Kevin we should dive Golfball Reef as it was on our way. Visibility was about five feet and the bottom was so stirred up that every photo I took had to be at least twenty feet off the reef. At least the water had warmed up to 53°.

The lighting in those nudibranchs pictures is just perfect. No other word for it.

That's the only good thing about poor vis. You have to get very close and try not to light the water behind your subject.

I can see why you list yourself as a photographer. Outstanding work. Most people with camera in hand could not get those results under the best of conditions.

The worst part is diving with my buddy Kevin. He has had cover photos and articles in dozens of magazines. I try to emulate him but I pale in comparison.

Over here on Catalina there were reports of up to 60 ft vis on Saturday and 64 F bottom temps

We're doing better than you guys are -- Saturday, our worst viz was at least ten feet!
