I live in the South Bay area. I've never dove or snorkeled in California due to the cold water. I'm a strictly warm water guy, and I hate the cold water.

But it costs a lot to get out there, and Palos Verdes is the closest place I can go to so I'm thinking about a wetsuit. Has anybody dove in PV? What do you see down there? Is it best by Marine Land or Malaga Cove?

Most places around the peninsula will be similar as far as life goes near shore. My favorite snorkeling site in P.V. is Christmas Tree Cove. As with most sites here, it's a bit of a climb, but when the conditions are good you can see all kinds of marine life in the shallows.

What have you seen down there?

Reef fish, various sharks and rays, nudibranchs, lobsters, octopus, Black Seabass, dozens of different algaes, sponges, Christmas Tree worms, seals and sea lions, different shellfish, squid, Sea stars everywhere, dolphins, ...pretty much anything that lives in SoCal. Check out the local pictures from my buddy Ross.

7mm suit and go diving or snorkeling. Malaga Cove, Haggerties, Christmas Tree Cove, Flat Rock, Long Point (Old Marine Land) and other locations all offer great opportunities depending on day, time and conditions.

What do we see? Maxbottime pretty well covered it and he has photos too. I will add the sun shinning down through the kelp onto a school of fish, and other beautiful sites. Just pure beauty and tranquility.

In short, only way is to see for yourself.
