Thumbs down If its winter in SoCal, that phone ringing must be a cancelled boat dive...

    DAMMIT JIM

    "Ring Ring..."

    "Hey - Ken Here..."

"Dude, boat's cancelled. Huge swells... we can reschedule..."

    CLICK

Its become my least favorite time of year here. Jan and Feb. Some call it winter, I call it Dive Boat Roulette. You book a trip, and quite often, it gets cancelled hours before boarding.

So far, that's two this year - and its only 2/11. Better than 2002 (when I had 5 cancel by March) but ahead of last year.

I get the deal - safety, etc. Better to cancel than to go all Perfect Storm and go hull-up. I'm there. But its so frustrating. I'm packed, I'm fired up, I'm focused, and "ring, ring...."

Yeah yeah - and we got no ice, blah blah. Its SoCal. I want 70/70 all the time. That's why I'm here. This rain is tired. Lets turn the page and friggen dive. Looks like a few more Malibu night dives later in the week. Oy.

    @$(*&%#%

    OK.

So - DrB... just how ugly is the park looking right now?

I'm packed. I'm ready. Who's diving this weekend? San Diego to SLO - lemmie know, and I am there.

Going to Los Coronados, on a BOAT! Sorry it's full!

Enjoy the beach, I know you love it!

    * Lube your dry suit zipper. Again.

    * Change the batts in your back up light.

    * Re-fold your Polartech Drysuit Undies. Again.

    * Clean the science experiment gunk off your back up mask... ew

    * Re-read your wet notes. Crimany - was I narked or is my penmenship at 103 FSW really that poor.

    * Re-sew the tab on your left rock boot. Consider going to SC to get some bright red Chuck Taylors... then shake youself.

    * Fix that dodgey Spring strap on your Turtles.

    * Try to get that smell out of your hood. Crimany - what the hell crawled in there and died?

    OK.

This sucks. I gotta dive this weekend. I'm gonna start dialing for a road trip to SLO or Monterey, or LoCal or some place....

Ken... I'm beginning to believe we need to move further south, at least for the winter. A tropical island with great shore diving sounds just awesome right about now. Wonder how it is to live on Bonaire for a few months? Doubt I will dive tomorrow but hope to get a few in Sunday if the forecast holds.

Dove Malibu on Sat. I'm sure I'll be back there this week later on (probably Wed or Thurs). I actually did the rare Malibu day dive last Sat, before hitting Cat on the Encore on Sunday. We usually dive it at night.

    This stinks...

I gotta get wet this weekend.

Thanks, DrB. I may see you Sunday.

I'm 1,000 miles away and I still feel your pain. I want to dive badly myself. I bought a Zodiac a couple months ago just so I could get to more dive spots up here in the NW. I thought my flakey dive buddies might be more interested and less flakey if I had a boat. Nope.

I was sick with the flu last weekend and REALLY wanted to take the Zodiac out tomorrow. Nope.

I'm soooo bummed. What does a guy have to do to get wet? Sheesh! I'm about ready to bag cold water diving and just schedule more warm stuff.

    More flippin TV tomorrow!!!! Ug!

Boats are cancelling for Saturday? Things look kind of whipped up today from the rain, but none of the forecasts seems to be looking toward a continuing swell event. If beaches are too messy, I was mulling the possibility of Casino Point Sunday a.m. ...

I'll probably end up at the Point on Sunday, too.
