Ok all you underwater photographers, I need your help pretty please... I'm going into the next phase of the Catalina Research Diver program this weekend, which is species ID of creatures in our local waters (invertebrates and verts). The Research Divers do stuff around Catalina like monitoring key indicator species and counting the critters in an area.

So here's what I'm looking for:
If you have any photos of weird, unique critters (doesn't have to be a fish), under/over exposed, blurry or just plain bad..... Can you send me a URL, email or post here? I'm trying to get additional practice on species ID - please help. I'm feeling comfortable but not expert level just yet  Hey maybe I can help ya put a name to the critter you photographed too! I'm honestly not looking to scavage anyone's photos and it will only be viewed on my home computer (not printed or shown to the general public).

Also - Anyone else diving Casino Point this Saturday, 4/30?? See ya'll in Catalina next Saturday at the Point. I'll be the one crossing my fingers that I pass the species ID exam.....

Thanks!!

Lexy,
between Mine, sean's, and terry's pics, you have the weird, over-exposed, good, bad, and the ugly all covered! These should keep you busy for the next, oh, year or so...

Hope this is what you are looking for!

Ohh oohh ohh!! Goodie goodie!! I was looking at your photos, Seans and Terrys today actually.... I'm so glad you posted. Should I just add my Species ID guess in the comments section? Is that cool with you? Do you think the gang would mind at my guess in the comments section?

(Can you tell I'm excited?)

I can only speak for myself but feel free to comment as you will. :D

I love getting comments on my photos. Sean likes comments too. And leather. Wait, no one is supposed to know that....

Lexy- My web site has lots of images of regional marine life. However, they are all ID'ed so that may not be a help to you. You can find the still images off the following menu:

I'll be at the Point next weekend. Sounds like conditions are improving this week, assuming the rain doesn't hit us hard out here (===> runoff ===> plankton bloom).

Here's another Nudi for you, Lexy. Good luck. :D

Scroll to the bottom of the page.

Didn't realize Erik Erikson's images were still up on the web. I worked with him a fair bit 5-7 years ago. He disappeared from Catalina a few years ago and is reported to be hiding out in Costa Rica. Wish he'd post some images from those waters!

That image may be a tectibranch... a relative of the nudies.
