We're starting to plan a trip to Galapagos and would like to hear some personal experiences w/ some of the dive operations available there. We've looked at the Lammer Law, Aggressor, and are even considering a charter. Would appreciate any info.
thanks

The Aggressor was great. Your group should request most of the diving be at Darwin cuz that's where the action is.

Hi squid lover,

I have a 10 part trip report I churned out from an Aggressor trip in the Galapagos in Feb of last year. You may e-mail me if you'd like it.

In the meantime, both of the Aggressors & the brand new Peter Hughes craft now only do northern itineraries (e.g., Darwin & Wolf) unless otherwise chartered. As Puxesaco has indicated, that is where the action is.

Provided your dive skills are appropriate to the possible conditions there, I very emphatically recommend the Galapagos.

Best regards.

Sorry to pull at a thread that has long been buried, but how tough exactly are conditions in the Galapagos? I'm mainly a warm water wuss but have done the Channel Islands here in CA.

Another question - is it possible to do less than an 8-day liveaboard - I was considering a trip to Ecuador and Peru with some diving thrown in and if I did it that way I probably would only be able to get a couple days of diving in.

Just thought of a 3rd question - if I combine diving the Galapagos with hiking to Macchu Picchu, what are the altitudinal considerations I should bear in mind (ie should I do one or the other first or does it not matter either way)?

It's a long ride to Darwin- you'll wish you had more time. I wore a 9mil suit but had dry suit envy. The diving is quite physically challenging. It's a phenomenal trip.

Check out www.psdguam.com - they have a report on last years trip and loved it so much they have two trips organised for this year.

I have not been but would love to, alas not enough holiday left this year with other plans.

Have fun

Hi,

We will be aboard the Peter Hughes Sky Dancer the end of Oct. When is your trip scheduled? I would be happy to share info with you when we return. We are going to Tobago next month for a "training dive trip - currents".

When we reach Ecuador we are going to do four days in the rain forest staying at Sacha Lodge.

We have been gathering a lot of information. I had also read the Guam diveshop trip report. Doc Vikingo's article also gave alot of useful info. We contacted Peter Hughes and they sent us lots of info and also found their website helpful. When we fly to Ecuador (using airmiles) we will be staying in Quito at the Alameda Hotel.

In the planning stages and just got on the net and read all the info I could and then kept a notebook of bits and pieces of useful things to remember.

Hi Laine,

As you have an Oct trip planned, I suggest that you follow development of the latest El Nino very carefully.

Not sure how potent it's going to be yet, but when the cooler currents carrying the majority of the planktonic life are forced deeper, the hammerhead sharks tend leave or go deep, as do the mantas & whale sharks.

I will be doing an article on this soon.

Best regards.

I happened to notice today an article in The Sunday Times by Nick Hanna about diving in the Galapagos. There is a website at:

www.sunday-times.co.uk/travel

which I haven't had time to check to see if it's there on-line. If it isn't, I can scan and send it to anyone who's interested. There are some useful links, too, for liveaboard specialists.
