We'll be up there tomorrow as well and will check it out too- that would great if we could dive Scorpion again! We were up there today for a bit, the lake is getting warmer- a 3mm wasn't too bad for some freediving!

Scorpion Bay

FWIW, I try not to repeat stuff I have not heard first hand so I don't know why I am posting this, but...I was the 99th/Happy Valley Sports Chalet getting some airfills a few weeks back. The guy in the scuba dept. said the guy developing the marina is into scuba and plans to provide some kind of access once the construction is complete. He said he comes in all the time for airfills and did show me their log book for fills in which the guy did have a bunch. Maybe a positive sign.

'bob

BTW I am leaving for the Bahama's Thursday night for a week on a Blackbeards boat. Been doing Pleasant so much lately I almost forgot there is salt water out there. Should be fun-I can hardly wait.

Bill,

Count me in next Sunday. Let us know if the Scorpion Bay area looks doable.

Mike,
Salt water? Is that, like, water with salt in it? At least now you can take pictures with that fancy new camera you won last Saturday. Timing IS everything.

3MM?? At Last!

Wow. I'll bring my 3mm next weekend and see how it goes. Be nice to drop a few lbs from the weight pouch. I guess it'll be okay until I hit a thermocline that drops to 50º.

Checked out Scorpion Bay this morning. The good news is that the dive site looks great and is somewhat removed from where the floating boat docks are situated. Bad news is that there is no reasonable access to the water by vehicle (i.e. no roads or all existing roads are now gated). Also, there are several "No Trespassing" signs posted on the guard rail directly adjacent to the site. Lacking permission from the marina itself, it is my distinct impression that the site is going to be off limts in regard to diving.

Kris: What did you think?

Steve: I'll keep next Sunday open.

Regards, Bill W.

I agree. It looks like we should be able to dive, but the parking lot stops well short of the diving area and I don't see any other access points (especially with the signs posted)

I wonder if a chat with the marina folks would help our case any? Perhaps they would allow limited access for divers in the cove itself? Maybe worth a shot...

I went to their web site and sent them an email asking if there will be any provision for divers to access the shore from the parking area. I'll let you know what they say.

Hey Steve I was with Kris saturday. He did indeed wear a 3mm, while I had my 7-6-5 on and was nice and warm. I'd advise a 5mm or layer a full 3mm and a shorty.
