Does anyone know if there is a special type of slot screwdriver that will fit the tank valve knob nuts? I tried using a regular screwdriver on one side only but the metal seems like its quite week and its scratching all to hell. I've never seen one but something like that must exist with the two parts that come down and a relief in the middle for that bolt to extend up as you screw it down.

Those strange retainer nuts are used in several industries

What I have had very good success with is to take a large flat screwdriver, and use a small file to notch out the center of the blade to clear the threaded shaft.

Check with the local industrial tool suppliers, there are several sources for screwdrivers with approx. 1/2" wide blades.
