Got an email from Taylor Heard, dive coordinator for Spring Lake, that he will begin scheduling volunteer dives on weekends beginning May 1.

Any idea how they're going to restart the program (i.e. getting currency back, etc?)

Hi Chris,

The current policy is that until they restart the DFS classes, your status at the time they closed for demolition is the determining factor. In other words, get an approved dive request, hit the water and you are good to go.

At the present time, the staff has conducted a mini class for local instructors so that they can use the Training Area. IMHO, it will be months before they have a DFS class open for the general public. (Essentially the entire manual has to be rewritten and updated.)

Taylor has stated that he will be very liberal in getting people's status current. His email address has changed to divecoordinator@.....

Never hurts to ask. The worst that can happen is that he says no.

Thanks!

As fate would have it, Taylor assigned a diver who hadn't been in the lake for over 3 years to Pete and me.

Arch Site was a mess and vis was poor (only 30' or so) due to heavy mowing earlier in the morning.
