Reef Monitoring, Inc. is organizing another reef cleanup in Clearwater on Saturday 24-Sept at the *new* Clearwater Harbor Marina. More information is available here:
Reef Monitoring

Note there are door-prizes for the divers that recover the most marine debris and participating boat owners receive a $50 gift certificate. All registered participants receive a T-shirt, an air fill, and a *free* lunched provided by Hooters.

As you know, marine debris not only detracts from the aesthetic appeal of our neighborhood natural and artifical reefs, it threatens our wildlife:

We had a blast at our last event and expect this one to be bigger and better:

Reef Monitoring Inc. is dedicated to provide educational programs, care for and improve Florida's valuable reef and estuarine ecosystems, to advance sustainable communities, to help build institutional ability, and to gain broad-based public support for ongoing marine conservation, habitat enhancement, research and education programs.

Thanks,
Dave

Hey guys, we are interested in coming over. The only question I have is how far out is the reef? We have a boat and have access to a bigger boat, just trying to figure out which would be better.

This sounds like fun. Will have to put it on the calendar and see if I can make it. Pregnant wife that can't scuba dive at the moment is an obstacle to overcome. :D

So, your ten dollar registration fee gets you on a charter boat with an air fill, a t-shirt, and a free lunch. Sign up at Macs dive shop on Drew Street in Clearwater to reserve a spot on one of the boats. Or bring your own boat and register the day of the event. Space is limited on the charter boats, so if you're a boat owner and can accommodate a couple of volunteers, please do.

This is all non-profit and we rely heavily on our volunteer divers and corporate and private sponsors. Since this event occurs the day after the premiere of Dolphin Tale, we're hoping someone involved with the movie will be around to send off the boats. We'll let you know as that progresses.

If you can't dive, please consider making a donation, attending the movie, or just visiting our friends at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium:

Our reef cleanup is coming up in a couple of weeks and I wanted to update everyone on the registration process. You can now register via mail or fax and don't need to physically drive to Macs scuba to register. We do need you to register in advance so we can prepare the proper number of tee-shirts, swag bags, lunches, etc. To register go here:

Reef Monitoring

Remember, any corporate entity or private individual can be an event sponsor for only fifty bucks, which gets your logo on the web site and your name on the event tee-shirt. Participation as a volunteer diver is only 10 bucks!

Besides corporate sponsorship and a growing list of volunteer divers, we have a number of divers participating as teams. The list of participating dive groups currently includes the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Dive Team, the Tarpon Springs Chapter of the Scubanauts, Teen Research Underwater Explorers, the Florida Aquarium Dive Team, and the diving program at St. Petersburg College at Clearwater. Hopefully SCUBABOARD can participate as a team too and engage in a little friendly competition in regards to the most marine debris recovered!

More information on the beautiful natural and artificial reefs located just off the coast of Pinellas County can be found here:
