How Long Should my Pole Spear be?

I am contemplating buying a polespear for use in the local Wisconsin lakes, but I don't know much about them. What would be a good length?

    Thanks,
    McGill

Six footers work pretty good. I usually only shoot from a couple feet away though, I really don't think it matters alot.

The longer the polespear the greater the range of targets you will be able to hit. How close can you get to your target? A six foot length is average.

What's the vis like in the area you'll be hunting? What sized fish are you looking for?

Many come in 3 piece construction, which allows the full 6 to almost 7 foot length with the choie of adapter and head.

And with the middle removed, it's more suited for dirtier water.

Vis will probably average in the 10-15' range. I am hoping to bag fish as large as 20", but most will probably be closer to 8 or 10 inches.

Will I be able to get something decent for under $30?

Sorry it took me so long to get back.

I got a very sturdy fiberglass 6 1/2 footer for about 20 bucks, had it for about a year and a half and it has never let me down.

    Once again proving size counts.
