New to San Diego/Oceanside. Looking for people to dive with

Just moved to Oceanside. Looking for people to free dive or scuba with in the area. Very interested in lobster diving, but have no idea where to go.
If you are going out between San Diego and Newport Beach and don't mind someone tagging along, give me a shout. Or if you need someone to chip in on a boat.

I have experience diving and spearfishing in Hawaii...used to live there. Mostly did free diving, but have scuba gear.

I'm a 32 year old naval officer, just got stationed at Camp Pendleton.

it says hoop nets.....doesnt mention other types. Can a recreational license use other types of traps (cages)?

If you are interested in spearfishing, then come tag along with my budies and I. We are just getting into the gun phase and now leaving the poles behind mostly. We usually go in Solana Beach and Tamarack, but want to start going more in La Jolla.

There are many dive clubs down here that you could get involved with. Just call any of the dive shops and they can give you more info. Camp Pen also has a dive club. The dive shop on CP has some good gear as well. Most of the SCUBA diving without a boat will be done from LaJolla Shores or Cove. As far as LaJolla goes, most of the places there are part of a marine park so no spear fishing is allowed. Besides the vis is not that great and you have a better chance of spearing a diver than you would a large fish. Remember don't shoot the orange fish, they get rather upset when you shoot the state fish. I went to Solana Beach for bugs one time and it was bad. Some of the better spots I go to are the kelp beds off of Point Loma or the North Island area.

I have all my gear ready to go, just got a new 50" JBL speargun and dive gear.

I can also rent boats from the base here cheap....nothing fancy, but good enough to dive around the area. Also have a map that has the locations of some artificial reefs in the area....reported to be decent for lobsters/fish. I haven't been to confirm....but really want to go.
