A quick video of my buddy diving for a nice Dog Snapper in Palm Beach this weekend. Hero 3 Black, no light or filters.

Your buddy is a manimal. How deep? My last swim in Palm Beach was around some ship that washed aground. Is it still there?? A lot of small sharks. That was back in the 80's. I also got escorted out of town by the police. Apparently the Palm Beach beaches aren't public access, they don't allow riff raft. Delray was friendlier . Enjoyed the video.
Cheers

That looked deep....over 100 feet?
Unreal diving. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, it was "only" 85 feet. Sometimes I watch freedive videos and I just know that people "persist" in exaggerating the depths..

I was gauging it by the size of the guy coming up. But it's hard to tell accurately on a camera. But he was disappearing in what appeared to be not so bad vis. And yes, 85 feet is deep. A LOT of people will say they dive to 40 feet, but if you strap a computer on them, maybe......25 - 30?

Most people can't make 20 feet. I am impressed he went back for the tangled spear, found it and brought the fish back. It was almost 2 minutes for the dive according to the time line on video. Nice.

The time line on the video is correct; it is not cut or accelerated or slowed. I did not time the dives, but I think they were more like 1:20 maybe? It took a good 10 minute rest between the first dive shown and the second recovery dive.

I just watched the video again.. the second dive was around 1:20...

You're right. No wonder I run out of air sometimes, can't read numbers too well... Still an epic dive. Cheers

Yeah he is a good diver. The dive time of 1:20 is really nothing to brag about, especially for him. However, there was a current and all the work of untangling everything and especially dragging a fish up, makes for a lot of exertion (not to mention swimming down and back from 85 feet). :shocked2: That is one reason why freedive spearfishing is especially challenging because it is not just a matter of time, the diver must have a sense for his exertion level for the various activities that he performs underwater during the dive.

Think of swimming 50 yards underwater at the swim pool on one breath and that is a 75 foot free dive. The difference is if you come up short in a pool, you lift your head up. In a vertical dive no other option but to make it all the way. Not many swimmers can make that swim. Even with the aid of fins, the dive is impressive. I did hear PADI has a certification for free diving. Crazy. I thought you just had to practice and get in to swimming shape to free dive. I doubt if many divers could swim 25 yards underwater, thats why SCUBA was invented.
