I have an older cressi sub, small pneumatic speargun like this one :

i'm wondering how I can install a reel on it instead of this goofy red spaghetti cable I've got on there now. Any tips would be appreciated. I'm guessing I'll have to get some sort of round clamp cause there's nothing to bolt to on the body on the gun

I suspect that you think that a reel will be used as a substitute for the shooting line. If that is your impression, then you are mistaken.

Reels are not designed to release line at the speed that a shaft flies. Should you try to hook a shaft directly to a reel, I am pretty sure bad things will happen.

Guns with reels are designed to first have the shaft pull out one or two "wraps" of static shooting line (often, but not always monofilament line of 200 to 400 lb test), THEN this connects to the reel and can be used to release line as the conditions dictate.

so there's no alternative to the bunch of spaghetti string crap i have dangling off my spear tip ? I understand what you mean about the reel now.

I'm confused by what you mean by "spaghetti string crap." Are you referring to just the line itself, or a coiled line. A coiled line may help for a bit, but they are not a perfect solution, as they tend to kink just like an old telephone cord.

I'm not familiar with pneumatics, but looking at the gun you linked, the line release mechanism looks just like the line release mechanism on most guns. How many wraps do you use on your gun. Most I've seen use a double wrap, meaning the line is wrapped around the front hook and line release mechanism twice. You may be able to try the speed load kit that Ocean Rhino offers. This one is designed for a spearshaft that uses a slide-ring line attachment. I'm not familiar with the line attachment on your gun.

At the very least, this kit will likely need modification for the length of your gun, as well as how it attaches to your gun & shaft. Ocean Rhino - Spear Gun Load Line Kits I've seen these kits available in a lot of dive shops that carry Ocean Rhino guns. I've also seen non-Ocean Rhino guns modified with this kit, though I've never seen a pneumatic modified with this kit.

Omer makes nice reels for your gun. My favorite is the Omer Match Aluminum. As stated prior posts, you will still need about 2 wraps of line or mono. It is very fast reload though. Stick the butt of the spear in the gun, wrap the line around the release and nose 2 times and take up the slack on the reel, then compress the spear shaft.
