A short video of hunting cobia in the Palm Beach area. We were snorkeling in about 120 ft of water, using a flasher suspended from a float and a little chum to bring in the sharks. Eventually toward the end of the day we got a fish.

This was the first cobia taken by one member of our crew. This kind of hunting is best accomplished by team work, where we take turns diving down to around 45-50 ft to scan for cobia/sharks. Once one is speared, we generally try to place a second shaft, to make sure we don't lose the fish and to get it to the surface quicker. We bunch up around the fish on the surface and this helps to deter the sharks from getting too brave.

The cobia was shot around 40 ft and then took the gun and line deeper. My son chased after it, delivering a second shaft at a depth of around 80 ft. A lot more aggressive than I would have liked, :shakehead:but it is tough to throttle a 16 yr old.
