I missed the original post on Jim's death.
This just in from the Aggressor fleet - some amplification.

DEAR FRIENDS,

We are deeply saddened that Jim Church passed away New Year's Eve. Below are some kind thoughts from Stan Waterman and Jim's sister. Jim was so much a part of the Aggressor family and will be missed by so many people.

Jim donated his body to the University of Miami medical department. Eventually, he will be cremated and some of his ashes will be spread over Truk Lagoon. In accordance with Jim's wishes, close friends Mike Mesgleski and Mike Haber will host "Jim Church School of Underwater Photography" workshops aboard Aggressor Fleet vessels world wide. His legacy will also live on through the annual "Jim Church Photo Classic" underwater photography contest. If you have a favorite story or photo of Jim, that you would like to see posted on his memorial web site, please send it to mmesgleski@earthlink.net.

Jim's brother and sister, David Church and Nina Smith are hosting a celebration of Jim's life on Monday, January 13, 2003 at 7:30pm at Shula's Steak 2 Miami Lakes at Don Shula's Hotel, 6842 Main Street, Miami Lakes, FL 33014. If you are planning to attend, please RSVP by e-mail: mmesgleski@earthlink.net.

Wishing you happier news for the New Year.

Sincerely,
Wayne Hasson

This is very sad news indeed!

Anyone know the cause of death?

From all indications I've seen online, Jim had cancer of an unspecified nature.

Does anyone know what relation, if any, Jim was to Cathy Church?

Hello,

They met while diving in cali and was married, not sure for how long. I am not sure why they split but her attitude probably has some to do with it.
