Fellow Fans of Photography,

For years I have been an admirer of Norbert Wu's u/w photography. It shows up in every scuba magazine and is frequently recognizeable in the art work of "normal" magazines. However, I have so many books on photography that I never grabbed his of the shelf and thumbed through it.

Well, yesterday I was in an underwater photograpy shop--yes, we have a shop in Northern California that is completely devoted to u/w photography--and pulled "How To Photograph Underwater" by Mr. Wu off the shelf. Credit where credit is due: Rooster inspired me to do so. And now I have one more book on MY bookshelf!

I took my new book home and started to read it--and did not put it down until the last page! It is a wonderful book. As resident book critic, I have to say that it is not as readable for those who are not schooled in the language of photography, in my opinion, as Church or Edge. However, the photographs are stunning, something that should surprise no one familiar with Norbert Wu's work. And his description of advanced techniques is superb.

But it is the photographs to which I want to draw your attention--especially one on page 76, If you want to see a shark photo that raises the hair on the nape of your neck, have a look at that photo!

One more thing: this book was copywrited in 1994 and, so, for you "gearheads" who want a heads up on the latest and greatest, it will disappoint.

Message: nice book, great photos, excellent addition to your bookshelf!

Joewr...hoping the The Board will consider hiring me to be its book critic--at double my current pay...
