Has anyone out there ordered from B&H in New York ordered anything to the UK, and suddenly got a phone call stating a massive Import Fee from the Carrier. I got hell of a shock yesterday when i had ordered a DS125 strobe and the carrier UPS told me i owed another £188 in fees.

Is this normal, as im still chewing on my balls from the shock of the addition costs???

As far as I know this is standard practice. Anything imported into the UK from outside the EU is subject to import duty and VAT.

If the items are of sufficient value, then it can often work out cheaper to fly to the US and pick them up. Technically they are still subject to the same duties on the way back in, but it is much easier to hide them or claim that they were bought in the UK and just returning home.

Thanks for that, but the charge was incorrect so im pleased i refused to pay it. The guy went away, re rated it and the told me it was only £90. More like it i would say.

Just makes you wonder how many other people get screwed over by just paying the amount and not querying it doesnt it.!!!

Anyway, im a happy bunny now and should receive the item tomorrow.:eek:ut:
