    Hypothetical? situation

Ok..say you are in about 30' of water and come across an 12' aluminum boat laying on the bottom...You know this boat is only there because some idiots (hypothetical remember) thought lawn chairs in boats and a high center of gravity would be comfortable..lol..so..this means..no holes.

What would be the best way to lift this?

*no..I am not the hypothetical idiot..lol*

Lift bags attached to one side of it to bring it to the surface sideways. Less drag and easier to get it right side up on the surface with minimal water in it.

    Hypothetically speaking of course...

That was one of my thoughts..wasn't sure the sideways thing would work as I have never lifted anything... Thought about releasing air from a stage under it..displacing the water from the underside, and using it as it's own lift..but then figured there would be no way to keep it balanced going up and it would likely just roll..

Is there a link anywhere to underwater recovery of items?

Get four 5 gallon joint compound buckets or something similar if you dont have lift bags. Put a couple of slings underneath near the bow and stern and attach a 5 gallon joint compound bucket on each side. Snug up the slings so when inflated the gunnels of the boat rise above the surface and then bail or pump out the water.

A more dynamic method is to tie the john boat's bow off to a line attached to a good size motorboat. Pull out the bilge plug on the johnboat and then dirve off. The jonboat will come to the surface and if righted properly it will self-bail itself once up on plane.
