There will be a benefit BBQ for one of the 1715 fleet treasure hunters who has been diagnosed with cancer, Nov 3.
If you are interested in treasure hunting this is a great opportunity to meet some of the people that are doing it. Some of the people have been doing it for over 40 years, really interesting people. They are a friendly bunch of divers.
I went to the annual cook out last spring for the first time. I was sitting at a table and talking to this guy, turns out he was the capt of the boat that found the atocha, his wife was one of the divers. He had a book, "Sweat of the Sun, Tears of the Moon" about his Atocha years. I recommend it if you are interested in the Atocha story. Another guy starts BSing and shows pictures with small piles of emeralds on his kitchen counter, interesting people to listen to.
It's for a good cause, make a weekend of it. Visit the Fisher museum a few miles up the road in Sebastian, go metal detect the 1715 beaches and get some good eats at the BBQ
If you ever wanted to buy a silver piece of eight but were put of by the price, this will probably be a good place to buy one directly from someone who found it
