[h=2]Finnish divers have released an unprecedented video showing the well-preserved wreck of a German submarine from the First World War in the Gulf of Finland.[/h]Just over a week ago, a Finnish diving group called Badewanne announced the finding of a German U-26 submarine that vanished nearly 100 years ago in the Gulf of Finland.
The vessel disappeared in late August 1915. The previous autumn, it had sunk the Russian cruiser Pallada near Hanko, mainland Finland's southernmost point. That wreck that was located by the same diving team.
Team member Immi Wallin, who has examined the U-26 wreck, says it is in unbelievably good condition.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Badewanne describes it as probably the best preserved WWI German U-boat wreck in the world.
Badewanne calls itself a a non-profit organization representing a group of voluntary divers that have been documenting shipwrecks in the Gulf of Finland for more than 20 years. The group takes its name from the German World War Two nickname for the shallow Gulf of Finland meaning bathtub.
