I could not spot the octopus before it lit up. I also got my wif and daughter to try to spot it and they also couldn't either. That's really incredible.
Last weekend we went out to see if we could see a couple of the octopus that like to hang out at this area called the "crap patch" ( La Jolla Shores dive spot CA).
I actually past right over one and didn't even know it. It moved only when my light shined on him then he revealed himself. It was a fairly large octopus.
Its so amazing how they display those colors once they are discovered.
