I don't really understand the deal with OMS. As a dealer, I had a unique encounter with them.
During an earler DEMA visit with OMS, they expressed an interest in having a dealer in Alabama. In early 2004, I phoned them to enquire about a possible visit from one of their representatives. The conversation with the receptionist (or maybe the president, if SHE answers the phone). The follow is a paraphrase of the conversation (I am too old to remember the EXACT words, but the message is perfectly accurate) This entire conversation had the air of "we don't really care", with a corresponding tone of voice:
OMS - "Did you say you were in Alabama?"
ME - "Yes, Decatur Alabama."
OMS - "Are there any divers there in.....where did you say?...Alabama?"
ME - "Yes, there are divers here"
OMS - "Well, that is shocking!"
ME - "Don't be shocked, we all kinds of things here in Alabama, including diving."
OMS - "Well, I don't know if there are enough divers in Alabama to interest OMS."
ME - "Actually, that doesn't matter. There IS a $1,000,000 + dive store in Alabama. I know because I operate it and work here for about 80 hours per week."
OMS - "Why?"
ME - What did you say?"
OMS - " I just wanted to know why you would want a dive store in Alabama."
ME - "Are you interested in selling OMS gear to me or not?"
OMS - "I don't know. Send us all of your details."
OMS - CLICK!
I must say....in ALL of my invovement with scuba industry suppliers (and many of them are bizzare in nature...that's just our industry), I have never experienced anything like this. The shame is, I would still like to be an OMS dealer. I think I could sell some of the stuff. Unfortunately, the next move is theirs.
OMS is really stupid.... Hence, they are losing thier customers to other brands..
Why didn't they have any educated sale person in their company? If only one person were a formally educated in a business school, they would know what they are doing....
We purchase from OMS for our fire and police departments. After ordering 10 complete BC's
not only did we wait for several weeks, but there was damaged merchandise. One of the harness
QR buckles was broken where it is sewn on. I call OMS and tell them about the various issues,
but the one I wanted resolved especially was the harness system. I wanted them to send me a new one, but they INSISTED that I must send back the broken one for them to fix it. They were not going to just replace it. So not only did I have to wait for my order, but they were going
to make we wait until whenever someone could re-sew it. I told them I thought they had "piss poor" customer service. It's never been great, but it just keeps getting worse. It was dealers
like us that helped them to get where they are and now that they are all over the internet,
they could care less. I don't have a rep, so I PM'd the SE rep that is on this board and never
got a reply - go figure.
Dealing with OMS has always been ah, kinda interesting. I always felt like I had gotten cross-connected to a parallel universe, and not one that I'd like to be in.
I purchased an OMS bottom timer (UWatec with an OMS label slapped on it). Turns out it's depth reading was a few feet off.
I bought it from Brent ("hunter_9111" on here, or something close ). I contacted him about the issue and when he replied, he already had an RMA number from OMS and pre-filled out the RMA form. All I had to do was print it out and stick it in a box with the bottom timer to get shipped off.
That was many weeks ago. Since then, Brent has been on the phone with OMS numerous times and they keep giving him the runaround. Seriously guys, either send me a new bottom timer or fix the old one. There's no reason for it to take this long.
Great service from Brent, bad service from OMS. I will never buy another OMS product again...

I'm getting ready to purchase this equipment from a local OMS dealer for a little over $700. After reading this thread I have got some reservations, and am now thinking about DR.
BC-118K Red
BP-134-S
BP015
BCA-270 (I think they come in sets of two).
Single Tank adapter for BP015
There is a guy on SB from OMS, Tech_Diver. Has anyone contacted him with their issues with OMS? I know its a year since Doc Harry originally posted, but a PM or direct e-mail to Jack seems like the next step. Ocean Management Systems
