Does anyone else hate discussing religion and politics as much as I do?
Why do people that are mere coworkers or aquaintances think it is ok to pipe in with unsolicited opinions about religion or politics. Why would you want to toss such a conversational hand grenade in the first place. Even people that I consider friends I don't dare broach the topics.

This is a very interesting idea from obviously a very superior being!
You have MERE coworkers and aquaintances, the word MERE shows that you look down on people!
Religion, Politics, Sex and Sport are probably some of the most discussed topics anywhere in the world so if you do not like the subjects or not dare to broach the subject to your obviously lucky enough to be considered friends then why not get on your high horse and ride away from the subject!
You state that "there is only one way to dive and yours is the wrong way!" Wow, you must be a really good diver after such a forward statement saying that all divers are wrong but I notice that you do not log your dives so what proof do you have as to your greatness in diving!
Divers who come to me to dive and are so great as to not have to bother to log their dives get treated as new Open Water Divers! Dive logs are there for the simple reason as a proof of your experience and not for show!
You come from a place called None of your business, it cannot be much of a place if its not worth mentioning or it,s much below your obviously high standards and filled with inferior people!
All in all, after reading your superior script I really believe that your Scubaboard name is very fitting and that you are a solo diver as there are probably no other divers in the same class as to dive with you or even want to dive with you!
Solo Diving is fine if done correctly and all safety precautions are taken but it usually is not used to introduce ones self to the world!
You could be a very nice person but I am afraid that you do not advertise yourself as such so grow up and become a part of the real world and give everyone a break!

pretty sure it's just you. everyone else I've ever met loves discussing them, and always manages to do so with a high degree of civility, patience and understanding. :p

You obviously haven't spent much time in the Pub

You don't consider me a friend and I would "dare" broach any topic I damn well please with you. Freedom of speach is a wonderful thing, if you hate it so much I'm sure you'd be more than welcome in any number of third world nations that don't allow it.

I'm not particularly fond of politics but I love religion. Both however play a key role in my life so it would not only be difficult but also exceedingly weird if I did not speak about it - just as it would be exceedingly weird of me never to bring up the topic of birdwatching or scuba diving from time to time.
I guess it's best then that you avoid conversations with me, just giving you a heads up. Out there in the real world you won't get that heads up unfortunately so brace yourself, you're going to be confronted by these two issues from time to time. If you can stomach someone bringing up the topic of birdwatching, scuba diving or whatever other topics they are passionate about, I'd suggest you learn to accept these topics as equally likely to pop up. Failing that, my best advice would be to find another planet.

Ever try the "I'm sorry, but I don't know you well enough to discuss such a touchy subject with you?" then walk away approach?
I would imagine that "mere co-workers and aquaintances" don't speak much to you anyway. At least not after feeling the mere vibe. How many people do you "consider friends"?
So far it sounds like the answer to your question is no.
It is unfortunate that you do not appreciate these subjects since the topics of religion and politics usually require thought and the development of a personal outlook on the world. Spirituality is part of who we are as individuals and political discussion is part of who we are as a democratic society - at least here in the US.
Where and how the discussions take place is a valid concern, but a total avoidance of these topics is sad for sure.

Oh man, you're gonna burn in hell...just like that socialist that was elected!
