Me and my husband is getting certified for scuba diving and I just got the mirena IUD a few days ago and was wondering will it affect me while diving? I know going further down in the water your body changes causing pressure on the body. Any females dived with an IUD?

Pressure does increase as you descend, but it's distributed evenly through all the water-containing structures of the body. Only the air spaces (ears, sinuses, and sometimes gut) will experience any significant changes with depth. As there is not generally any air in the uterus, there will be no change to the relationship of the organ and the IUD.

You will learn more about this in your class!

Thank you! We already took the classes just have to do the dives. They didn't mention that part.

I haven't myself but my sister has and has never said anything about any problems. I'd have thought that because of where it is it wouldn't be affected anyway but it's worth checking.

i've had one for several hundred dives - no issues! :)
