.....how long do you leave it before diving again??

Any comments from mum's who've done it and even ladies and gents who havent would be greatly appricated.

And would having problems during the pregnancy affect when you re-submerged again?

HI Scubababy,

Well, I have heard that it is recommended you wait 4-6 weeks before resuming diving; about the same amount of time typically recommended before resuming relations with your partner.

I haven't actually experienced this myself but I have heard this from a couple of Mom's who are active divers.

Now, is there something you would like to tell us? Inquiring minds and all that.

=)

Don't know what your talking about!!!

I woudl think four to six weeks would be a good start but you would also have to consider lactation. As wet suits are pretty tight they would probably cause a woman to leak. I doubt it would really pose a problem as it would easily wash off. The child may have a problem with its next meal getting washed away into the water. The pressure of the wet suit and depth may also be uncomfortable on the chest. If there were complications with tearing of the uterus or problems with abdominal stitches it would probably be much longer until a lady would be allowed to lug a tank or heavy weight belt. New mothers are often told not to pick up anything heavier than her child.

Abby... I must say from a happily married father of a 2 y/o girl... you are a beautiful young lady.

Tom

To start...thank you LadyDiver and Tom for answering my questions...and thank you tom for making me blush!

Secondly, I have just under 50% normal kidney function and I have always been cautious about carrying the weight of my gear as it is as I am not allowed to lift heavy items such as my tank at the best of times.

After pregnancy, I could incur serious problems to my own health...could any problems I have with my kidneys and renal function affect me diving????

Abby,

Doctor is the word you are searching for! ObGyn! And maybe endocrinologist--but certainly a GP at minimum!

Joewr, a very serious Joewr

Scubababy,

I would have to agree with Joewr on this point. Considering the issues you already have with your kidneys, I would definitely consult an OB/GYN WELL BEFORE you even think about getting pregnant. Diving issues aside, the extra stress of pregnancy could have very serious implications for your health in general.

Please be very careful, we wouldn't want anything to happen to our Scubababy.

=)

I agree, especially with the pressure that having a little developing will create. It could cause serious problems with your kidneys. Good Luck.

Ladydiver, do you mean to imply that you do not agree with me on every point? I am crushed! Well, I guess I have not done all my censorship duties as well as I could have, but heck, you don't want to destroy my Mr. Nice Guy rep. do you?

Joewr(sulking in a corner...)

Poor Joewr....xxx

I have spoken to a specialist of kidneys and renal function etc....no one would give me a straight answer if pregnancy could lead to my end....but to be honest, I have made it clear to all those dear as to what I would want to happen if it would be a choice between myself and a baby.

I am not going to not have kids just cause to the "potential" problems it may cause.....the way I see it is I was lucky i survived when I was 3 from Hymolitic Ureamic Syndrome (what caused all my problems) and I have lived more years than maybe I was suppose to, so.....hey...I'm happy taking these risks!
