These pesky Europeans and their commas!
I was on a live aboard that had a group from a certain country that started drinking at dinner and through the night. Next morning the group could hardly walk a straight line. I stayed as far away from them in the water and on the boat. We had to return to port when two got bent. The boat then limited the available alcohol to just dinner and a couple of drinks.
Now we want to know which “certain” country this was.
The way I read your first post, you are outraged that some dive ops would have this rule, and it would be alienating to Europeans. The way I read the second post, you are also outraged that any dive op with a more lax rule exists. I think we're having trouble understanding each other, so let me paraphrase the rule I'm talking about.
The rule on the Belize Aggressor is: when you wake up, you have a clean slate, and can do whatever you want. You can dive all day if you want to, or you can drink all day if you want to. But, once you have a drink, you are done diving for that day (you become a sunbather for the day). Next day, again, you can do whatever you want.
I say "some dive ops", because I have also dived at shore-based resorts where it works differently, like Buddy Dive in Bonaire. They have a restaurant with a bar onsite. On at least one occasion, I went for a couple of dives in the morning, had a beer with lunch, and then went for a couple more dives in the evening. Looking back, I dunno, there might be a rule against this. But, if such a rule exists, I don't recall hearing about it, and did not observe any attempt to enforce it. Bonaire is a laissez faire place, and much of the diving there is shore-based in a rented car.
