Does anyone have any tips/suggestions for leakage into my mask caused by moustache hair? Please don't suggest whacking the thing off. I have tried trimming a stripe below my nose. That seemed to help some but I'm still looking for wisdom from the hirsuite divers on this site. :mr_t:

In earlier posts, people have suggested Vaseline in that little strip you shaved under your nose, or even Chap-stick to make a better seal.

I have a small travel tube of generic Vaseline in my BC pocket that I dab a small bit on my moustache before dives, has worked great. I've been doing it for a couple of years now with no problems. I'm sure there will be some flaming posts that the petroleum will break down the silicone on the mask and ruin the skirt from some fellow Scubaboarders, but like I said I've been using it for a couple of years with almost 100 dives and it works fine. I use the $0.50 tubes from the travel toiletry section of Wal-Mart.

You can also use silicon o-ring lube.

I set the beard trimmer to 1 and that works.

Sold alot of this to members on here, all have been extremely happy. As some one said, vasoline can break it down, it might not break it down right away, but it will break it down prematurely. This is our own product that is actually good for the mask and rejuventates the silicon....

Run a search for "Mask Leak Sealant" or "MLS" if you want to see what others think

You sent me a complimentary tube and it does work great

After trying a number of different things I finally gave up having a dry mask unless I shave mine off completely. Trimming a little helps a little... but I have resigned myself to having my mask 1/4 full of water for much of my dive ... you do get get very good at clearing it as a result

I'll be shaving mine off in a few days (4 days and counting) and then back to a dry(er) mask for me.

It also depends on how coarse your beard is, my mustache pushes my mask away from my face, so sealant doesn't make much of a difference...

Aloha, Tim

Since most current model silicone masks have very pliable skirts, to me it seems that there's a perfectly dry mask out there for everyone, if they'll just find it. For the relatively low cost of a good mask if you look online, and the ease of reselling one here, or trying some out if you have a good LDS, find the right mask! I've had the 'stache and beard for 30 years, and find that a mask that fits well, and a smoothly shaved strip under my nose, means I'm bone dry every dive, actually drier than when I smeared goop under my nose. For what it's worth, I dive a Mares X-Vision, not the fancy Liquid Skin version.
