Welcome. We are a dive club located in Durham, NC serving the Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill. We are a club that meets monthly with every other month a presentation and the other month a social meeting. We meet at restaurants througout the region. hi everyone,

I am coming over the NC in april this year (7th til 11th) and am desperate to do some wreck diving and see the sandtigers, ragged-toothed sharks etc.

I am visiting a friend in Chapel Hill for a wedding this April and we will also be spending about 4 days in Topsail Beach. (at Topsail from April 7th-11th).

Do you know if any local schools run dive trips in April? If so from where do they depart, what is the cost (roughly) per dive (if I dont bring my own equipment) and would it be possible for me to join any local clubs for a couple of days.

I have been divemaster for about 4 years, logged around 400 dives and have ben running dive trips and marien conservation projects since around 2004.

I am very interested in the wrecks, sandtiger sharks, ragged-tooths and any other sites - any infromation you have on how to go about booking dives in NC would be much appreciated.

If you have a numbers that would help, please let me know.

Hi questunderseas, The best place to dive out of is Beaufort or Moorehead City. They are on the cost, the lower outer banks. There are over 1200 wrecks in this area from Hatteras to Willmington (as far as NC is concerned). From Chapel Hill these towns are about 3.5 hours away. An easy trip.
I would check with Discovery Diving in Beaufort Discovery Diving Co., Inc. - North Carolina Wreck Diving in the Graveyard of the Atlantic, or Olympus in Moorehead City Olympus Dive Center - Home. They do charters everyday and I have dove with both these guys over the past 10 years. They are great. If you go to Discovery ask for Capt Leroy. He runs a six-pack for Discovery and he is really a great dude!
You will see not only some of the best wrecks in the world but the tiger sand sharks are so plentiful here and they are very docile.
If you get the chance go to the U-352 German sub. It is really a "must see" in this area. There is a great story , really sad, about this sub. It is really a nice dive, about 110 feet but vis is usually great and the temps this time of year is about 65 at the bottom so you would be able to dive with 3 or 5 ml.
