Hi !

What would happens if I upgrade my 1G with GX100 firmware ?

Do you plan to correct the dim screen effect in manuel mode when under exposed ?
I think it's the main default of this camera with the slow raw writing !

Come on ! Give us a firmware upgrade before summer ! :eyebrow:

Regards

HI-
1) According to our information, you will lose the SEA&SEA custom mode if you replace the current firmware with the GX100. There are no current SEA&SEA firmware updates for the DX-1G camera.
2) The screen dims in manual mode since it shows a "live-view" of the actual image, this can not be corrected except by adjusting the camera's settings for proper exposure.
3) Yes, there is a delayed writing time when shooting in RAW mode due to the very large file size, your cards write-speed - which often limits write-speed more than the camera, and the internal processor of the camera. We recommend using SDHC cards with the fastest write-speeds available.

2) The screen dims in manual mode since it shows a "live-view" of the actual image, this can not be corrected except by adjusting the camera's settings for proper exposure.

But if I want to take a picture in macro mode with a strobe at f:15,8 to have a big d.o.f and a decent speed in mode M, the screen is dark !

A lot of owners of DX1g complain about that so I hope a new firmware from sea&sea or Ricoh will kick off this :cussing:"live-view" !

Hi, I agree with Broogino and as soon as Ricoh as corrected its firmware (1.18 right now) I think there is a need to give the sea&sea 1G the same corrected issues.

I don't care about the warranty, because I live so far that it's less expensive for me to buy a new one.
Is the 1.0 firmware downloadable somewhere to put it back in case we have problems with the ricoh firmware ?
Regards

Hi,

Just to check if there are any updates on this situation? (forgive the pun)

Say if we use the GX100 firmware update, the only thing we lose is the SS mode?

Cheers
Justin

Quite sad...being ignored here

Hi djarth-
Apologies for the delay and oversight in replying to your follow-up question. The information posted in March is still current. Ricoh has not issued SEA&SEA new firmware for the DX-1G. Since Ricoh manufactures this product under the SEA&SEA brand, they dictate product updates. The GX-100 updates available can be installed on the DX-1G, however, you will lose the SEA&SEA mode and customized items.
Ricoh update site is HERE

I have bought one of the Fantasea Nano focus lights (also sold by 10bar and others) with a fitting for the shoe on top of the DX 1G.
So far I've only tried it dry but it produces just enough light to see the subject at macro distances using minimum aperture in manual mode, we'll see how well it works in Grand Turk in a few weeks.
IMO the screen dimming to show exposure in all manual modes makes this camera virtually useless for macro- a major oversight by Sea and Sea and a shame because otherwise it's a good camera but it could have been exceptional !!
Sea and Sea have been around long enough to know that there is only one way to take good macro images underwater (manual aperture/ shutter and exposure controlled by strobe ) and that any camera that can't do this because of it's screen or whatever should not be advertised as suitable for macro photography.
Another thing that bugs me is the way the two private modes (My1 and My2) are tied to the manual aperture and shutter speed settings- to be any use these should have been completely independent.
Anyway- fingers crossed for the focus light as a fix!

HI reefrat-
Thanks for the feedback, hopefully you will get some good results. As has been stated previously, the DX-1G is an OEM product manufactured and supplied by Ricoh for SEA&SEA. As with any product development, there is a fine balance between price, features and function, etc. The DX-1G is a lot of camera for the price, so enjoy and post some pics when you get in the water!
