I am curious to know what can be improved and what you dislike/like about our Divetracker Sports/Scouts.

They've not really been changed in the last 16ish years they've been on the market...we found some things that worked and stuck with it. Various other companies tried and tried again, but always failed. We're not going anywhere :eyebrow:

We've used the scout on boat dives. It worked really well in locating us back to the vicinity of the boat. We still rely on nav skills but it is always a nice backup for those times when you are where you think you should be but....not quite. Saves time not having to surface and swim to the mislocated boat :11:. I've had a few issues with correct readings when the kelp forest are between us and the boat.

I just received this "review" Monday from a very recent customer

I think you have a great product. This past weekend I got a lot of interest from divers on the boat that saw me using it. I demonstrated it's use to at least 4 different divers. My dive buddy was also very impressed when we came back to the swim step of the dive boat 7 out of seven times over the two day dive trip. At one point we had a lively discussion in 35' of water as to where the boat was anchored. He was really surprised when we followed my direction and came directly back to the boat. We would of had a long surface swim, in current, had we gone the direction he wanted to follow. I'm looking forward to using it more and getting more comfortable with it's use together with my compass. It's really a bit odd how well I could make it work with no prior experience.

I just received my sport yesterday and will be checking it out this weekend. I have owned and used a scout for about five years. The scout is ok...but somewhat complicated to get used to (understanding the flashing lights) and does have its limitations. I sometimes had issues and frustrations with it (usually low battery or trying to get the magnet on/off to work) and could not use it. When it worked, it did function as designed and got me back to the anchor line more times than not. When it did not, it was usually due to very poor visibility and I swam right by the anchor. The majority of my diving is along the Massachusetts coastline and the visibility is usually not very good. For those of you who are bug hunters or scallop divers, you know what I mean when I say why bother with a compass. The scout, even with it's little hassles and complicated light system, did work for me and I have been pleased with it. For those who cannot afford the sport, the scout is not a bad tracking system to consider.
That said, I've decided to upgrade to the sport model. The ease of turning the units on,the low battery indicators, and the longer range made me decide to upgrade. It has not been in the water yet, but my first impression is how much larger and more robust the units are compared to the scout. I will post next week how the sport model worked in actual dive conditions.

Thanks for your comments :) Will wait until I hear back on how much you like/dislike the Sport.

I just got my Scout today. I installed the batteries and the transmitter apears to start and function. The receiver light light up and flash indicating it is in self test mode even when the magnet is away from the unit. The blinking does not change with the transmitter on or off. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Got my Scout back today. Seems to be working fine, I'll be trying it out in the water in the next weekend. Thank you for the quick response and return.

Tried the system out yesterday. Worked well, I was able to get in the general area of the boat at the end of each dive, very little surface swim required.

Are you putting the transmitter off the side of the boat or on the anchor line?

If you can, tie it off to the anchor line then you won't need to surface swim at all, just ascend.
