I won't have a camera either :) I think you do tend to see a lot more that way, which is why I'm a good spotter for my hubby when he's taking pictures.
 
Non-photogs are wonderful! Not only are they great critter spotters, but they don't hog the subjects once they've found them... and they usually have an idea where the boat was. After concentrating on macro subjects on a sand bottom, I have a hard time calibrating my natural sense of direction and natural navigation! :wink:

But I do claim "dibs" on the spaces you would have been assigned in the camera room :D

One of my lenses has an almost 180 degree field of view. You'd be surprised at what can be seen behind that dome with my nose stuck to my camera :D

Amber...are you noting how many spotters we have???? hehehe :D
