Ah, yes a work shop air compressor. Yeah... that would not be good! I don't think he would do that... On second thought, maybe I will just send him a quick text...

Ever drain the liquid from a shop compressor? Water precipitates some under pressure and collects some yucky contaminants, but the air is still unfit for breathing under pressure. We have a macho compressor in our farm shop and a good gasoline powered one on one pickup - storage tanks in the others.

What might work better for him tho, might be to tell him that among the NO-NOs of using shop compressor air is the the precipitation will hurt his equipment.

Okay more thot given on this quick under the boat diving with a SA - 3 cf I guess? That's the equivalent to a little over 100 psi in a 80 cf tank, and I have to wonder if I would go under a boat with that much left in a tank: No way! Do these things even have a Spg?

I do hope he doesn't try to do more than one quick dive per fill.

I wonder why they don't make a spare air that is oxygen clean. I mean, wouldn't that pure Oxygen let you ascend faster, and decrease your chance of getting DCS?

They do, the Nitrox model, but breathing pure O2 is a stage bottle approach not a bail out, and of the divers qualified to do O2 stage decompression, I cannot imagine any of them going for a 3 cf. :11:

The main benefit of a SpareAir is it's the only piece of gear that lets you go out of air TWICE on the same dive.

I get amused by the Spare Air Vs. Pony discussion (argument). Every piece of gear has it's own niche. You need to figure out what piece of gear fits your needs.

I have seen them used by helo pilots doing long over water flights over the north sea. They say that when the helo lands in the water there, it tips over immediately, generally faster than the can get out. The are trained to use the spare air before they hit the water, in case the cold water makes them gasp.

They figure they will get 3 or 4 breaths, hopefully enough to get out of the helo. With exposure suits they hope this is enough to survive....

I wish them well.

I have 19cf pony and a 40 cf bailout if I feel the need.
