So did you read post #24?? I believe he answered all that and more.

Sorry it has been a long day. I did not realize he was the same poster. Yes post 24 was the most complete answer of the thread thus far.

Dsix36, please forgive me for getting a bit snappy. I do appreciate the answer you gave in the previous post. I have posted in bold so that no one misses that I indeed stand corrected. It was a helpful post and I appreciate you taking the time to share the information.[/B]

Your choice in who you have responded to is quite suspect. If you want straight answers and have a legtimate question then ignor the posts that do not answer and talk to the people that have answered you.

Regards

The first several posts were from people who had not used the product and proceeded to give long answers about why they did not like the product. And if you will notice that I posted the thread early this morning, did not post for a while and in between the mods decided to delete a whole bunch of stuff. I have no idea what that was as there was a long time that I was offline today.

I really would like to hear more from people who have used the product. And who have them, but have not tested them, I wonder why not?

And again for the record, I most certainly was in error in my last post to Dsix36.

Have you actually been in the water with spare air and tested it yourself? Or are you just posting the merits without having used it?

Really I am looking for information from people who have actually used it rather than people who think it is a great idea or people who think it is the worst idea ever.

I was trying to prove a point to you. Whether or not I've even ever seen a spare air is irrelevant.

is having 1 (One) or possibly more breaths worth 189.00 to you if you are OOA?

Real life experiences and accounts are irrelevant. Completely irrelevant. YOU need to decide for yourself if 1-15 breaths of air when you are in an emergency is worth the cost.

Yes, I have tried one, at 89 feet. I took three full breaths off it and it did not appear to be empty. I'm telling you that from 89 feet I could easily make a CESA with 3 breaths. And it probably had a few more to give.

Is 3 breaths of air in an OOG emergency worth the cost of the system? Noone can make that call for you.

Maybe we should have one thread for people that do own spare air, one thread for people who don't own spare air, one thread for those who used to own spare air, and one thread for people who are considering owning spare air.

Or maybe not.

Instead, we should just accept the fact that a multilateral dialog can't be controlled unilaterally, and that anyone that has something to say on the subject is free post. That's the way the interweb works - you get to ask the question, but you don't get to control who or how it's answered. At least that's how it should work, if the mods aren't on auto-pilot :)

Undersea, Maybe if we understood why you want to know what you want to know we could better assit you. From the nature of your posts I can see 2 possible reasons. #1 your considering buying one and want to know as much about them as possible to make an informed decision. If this is the case I believe about everything that you asked was answered unless those answers lead to more questions and if so, ask away.

#2 your trying to gather information to make a point about carrying gear with out testing it, trusting gear with out knowing it's true capabilities or you want to see how many people will chime in on gear they have never so much as touched or used.

One of the problems with what your trying to find out is that with any air source we are all different and what breathes easy for me may not for you, how long air lasts for me could be much different than anyone else and depending on the situation that requires someone to need the SP we will all act differently so there really is no one right answer. As you know even with an AL80 dive time can vary from person to person. I have seen people blow through a tank before I have used 500lbs and then when I'm down to 500, typically one of my buddies still has 1500lbs all though with practice and more dives that number is much closer now. With an SP with just 170 in it these numbers air amplified significantly.

I would say if your looking to get one, see if you can find someone that has one that will let you try it and see how it works for you.

Regards

I know it is difficult to meet my request to have a chat with people who own the device. Perhaps it is unreasonable for me to be allowed to discuss with actual owners of the device my questions.

I am a fan of gear testing. I can tell you how many seconds it takes for each of my smoke alarms to go off. I didn't trust what the package said. I decided that for me, I wanted an alarm in every room and wanted alarms in my home with both types of sensors.

Anyway back to SA I am wondering for the people who own SA if they have tested it out and for their various sac rates how it worked for them? And if they haven't I am hoping they will test it out.

If someone asks a question on the board of a certain group of divers, they should be allowed to get an answer from that group without that groups antigroup drowning out the answer. If you ask a question the the photogs, you should be able to get an answer without the group of people who think taking pictures is too distracting, if you ask a question about how split fins work or what owners think, or solo questions from solo divers, or dir from dir without the koolaid haters shouting it down.

It just strikes me as odd that those who don't own the device and think it is bad idea are afraid to let those who do own it give an answer. There were many such posts deleted yesterday.

The answers from owers vary, some think it is good. Others have said now that I have tried it, I have decided to set it aside for a better option.

Why am I asking the question? I am asking because I want to know the experience device owns have had with it. I like to know how things work. Some things work better than promised and others not as well.

I do wonder about people who are carrying it, but have not tested it. That of all things bewilders me. I test every piece of gear on every dive on the surface and once we get a few feet below and ask that my buddy does the same.

Is there some problem with me wanting to ask owners these questions?

If you have a problem with me asking the owners, can you share why you feel the need to prevent me from having a thread that is a discussion with owners and users or former users?

I have posted in bold letters responses to those who have posted who are not owners as soon as I started the thread it was over run with such people. When you have a thread full of such hostile posts it keeps away the very people I wanted to talk with.

If I asked a question about taking pictures under water and the thread was over run with people saying that I was going to die because I was distracted and that my buddy was going to die, I probaby would never get the answers. Or if I asked a DIR or Solo question, it would be nice to get an answer without either of those groups haters from over running the thread. It seems there is some great need to protect people on the board from talking to groups that others don't like.

Because people who don't own spare air want to comment on your question, even if you don't like what they have to say and find them unqualified to say it. No one, (but you) wants them to start their own thread just so they can have a discussion about "spare air for people who don't currently own spare air."

We don't need several different spare air threads, we only really need the one that we already have. But if we're going to start another one, we should just accept that everyone is going to comment on the subject, regardless of their qualifications. Again, that's the nature of the internet. You get to ask the question, but you don't get to control who or how it's answered. You're free to skim over the post you don't like.

It just seems a bit rude and self aborbed when someone directs a question to a certain group of people and others who are not part of that group demand to be heard and wish to shut down the dialog.

I asked for infomations from users of the product. Those who have not used it cannot answer my question--because the question was about actual use.

It seems my spare air questions upsets you Boxcar. You are welcome to continue to post in the thread to drive up your post count, although you might find it more rewarding to post in threads of matters that interest you.

As I understand how the board works, anyone can post a thread asking a question. There is no quota that needs to be met for what threads are needed or not needed. Threads are to remain as much on topic as possible according to the TOS. The topic of this thread is opinions of Spare Air users and more specifically real world use and real world testing.

And as for multilateral dialog, I am not really interested in that. I am interested in hearing from someone who can answer my question, and you just aren't the guy as you have no experience or at least haven't posted anything of relevance.

There are some folks who have posted Dsix36, Nemrod, Scubatoys, Bubblesup, diver 85, Scott M, dpbishop, did I miss anyone? Anyway, those folks have used the device and I find their posts informative and appreciate them taking time to answer my question. Boxcar, why does it bother you that I want to ask such product users what they think? Why would it be bad if 10 or 20 other such people posted and said I bought a spare air and this is my personal experience with it?

Dsix36 posted some really good info, but that is of course based on one person alone and his sac. I am curious if anyone else has such info or if there are others who own the device that we might be able to coax into giving the Spare Air a trial the next dive trip out. I hope some folks, actually many folks will do that. That is one of the nice things about the board, in that you can talk to folks who actually use products, shops, charters and get real world information.

Why do you think I would care about my post count? Unlike you, I don't even make it visible. Do I get some sort of prize if I post a lot? It would be cool if I did, I would post a lot more.

Anyway, I just don't think you can control the conversation like you want to. This is the internet, and interested people will respond, even if you don't want them to, even if you don't find them qualified or like what they have to say. I think you have to get over the fact that you can't control the conversation.

But that's the last I'm going to say about this. You can have the last word, which you seem to enjoy. You can feel free to tell me how I'm ruining your thread by posting in it even though I don't own spare air, or something even more silly. I'm done here, and don't care to post anymore.

I don't think that the questions being asked by UnderSea are too hard to understand, or the motive for them .. both of which have been explained
TOS says he can control the conversation to some degree
