Hey guys I'm extremely confused on this decision, so I'm wondering if anyone can help me out.

Basically, my dad and brother started diving a few weeks ago and they want me to join up. I have some money to buy equipment + the course right now but I also want a new PS3 since mine broke and a new HDTV. So I'm split in 2 based on this decision.

What makes diving so fun? and what would you recommend?

Let me know, please!

No brainier - get AWAY from the PS3 and the TV and go dive dive dive

Living in the real world is MUCH better that living that digital life - I was once an xbox junkie and like this life as a diver much better.

go diving and welcome to the board!

Hey Raphyy

I would recommend that you try it out. Sign up for a discover scuba. It is a single dive in a pool, which let you try the whole diving experience on for size. After that you well probably know, whether or not you would want to get certified.

Furthermore in terms of money, you do not have to rush out and buy equipment all at once. You could simply do with mask, snorkel and fins.

On what makes it fun. This is a bit more difficult, as I guess it varies from person to person. Some like to investigate wrecks, some like photography, some like to simply watch fishies and go exotic places.
For me it is mostly about the relaxation and the calm it brings to be weightless and simply drifting along with a buddy, doing not much more than what is necessary.

Long story short. Try it out. It doesn't cost a whole lot to try a single dive (you may even get your dad to chip in for the trial dive) and then make up your mind whether it should be TV+PS3,certificate+equipment or maybe PS3+certificate.

Hope you have fun, no matter what you choose

Yep, but who knows...?

Go do a Intro course & dive with a dive shop in the Jupiter to Ft.Lauderdale area - or have them suggest one. Then decide what seems more appealing. Make your own decision tho; don't allow anyone to talk you into giving up what you want. Some people would rather have the electronics.

Some observations:

1) there is plenty of time to watch TV and game screens when you are old, like me...I wish I had taken up diving when I was younger and stronger

2) you can watch and play other people's TVs and PS3's, but you can't dive someone else's C-card.

3) you don't give any information about yourself (married/single, age, etc), so this may not apply, but let's just say that you will likely meet more athletic and interesting people on a dive boat than at a gaming convention or in front of a TV set :D
