Light & Motion does offer a housing with custom trays that should allow most new Sony high def camcorders to work within it. If you "upgrade" to a new camcorder in the future, it may still work in the same housing with a change of trays. This is a big factor IMHO. I use the low end Top Dawg, but have been able to use 6 different Sony video cameras in it with no modification. That is a great advantage.

Didn't want to hijack the thread, but I saw your post on your trouble getting the one-touch burn to work, and though it might be useful for others to read this as well.

Keep in mind that the "one touch burn" feature with the SR-12 burns the disc in blu-ray format (AVCHD), so it will only work in a blu-ray player. You can also burn to standard DVD format, but I think you have to use the Sony Picture Motion Browser software and not the one touch feature. Alternatively, for added cost of course, you can purchase Sony's DVD Architect software and edit and burn to DVD that way as well.

Separately, I have not had much luck playing a blu-ray one-touch-burned DVD+R disc in my Sharp blu-ray player. It did, however, play in a Sony blu-ray player and looked great. I don't know what the deal is there, but that was my experience. I don't have a blu-ray DVD burner in my computer, but I would GUESS that it would probably work better on my Sharp blu-ray player if I used the one touch burn with a blu-ray burner and blu-ray media instead of DVD+R media.

I'm not an expert with this camera, so I probably don't have much more helpful advice for you beyond this, but hopefully this was useful!

Take care,
Santiago

Hi All:

This is my first post to the board! I too am in the process of deciding between HC9 and SR11/12.
I will probably be going with the SR11 or 12 though b/c of the convenience of the hard drive, even though it is thought of as slightly lower in quality than tapes due to compression. It is a tough choice. Why does Sony give us these options???
Another housing that I have not seen mentioned yet is Ocean Images. Good housing at a good price, I think. I have used them before and am happy with them. The HC series housing has a manual white balance control on it too.
