The Babies

We're taking our daughters to discover scuba tonight. Ages 14-20 and I still call them "the babies". I really don't know why I'm sharing this here, I'm just so excited about this sport and can't wait to share it with the people I love most in this world. I only wish we had done this years ago. Imagine the memories and experiences we'd have.

It's never to late to start making memories.......

You are right about that. It is never too late to start creating memories and in the past 5 years, some of my fondest memories have to do with SCUBA....it has become a true passion and one I never want to do without. Hopefully you can dive as a family. Hopefully they love it as much as you obviously do.

Look at it this way, up until now you have had the chance to make diversified memories before the scuba obsession hits, assuming that they really do become engaged in the sport.

In many eyes it's just now becoming prudent for your youngest to get involved anyway so overall just look at it as a great new opportuntiy you are exposing them to.

Greetings Mike and welcome to SB! Congratulations for your love of diving to pass it on to your treasured daughters. I can relate having done so with my daughter and she is now working on her JOW. A better gift you could not give, they can take with them through out their journeys in life. The diving life-style is a healthy balanced that encourages a life of fitness. Then there is the great adventure on the high seas and local quarries. Just one draw back my friend, vacations are a lot more expensive. But the memories will be priceless! the grow your own buddy scheme has worked for many other divers here on SB so i hope your family has a great time

another nice thing about diving together is you can tell any boys that hassles either of the girls that you can put their body in places noone will ever find them (or maybe thats just me with 15yr almitychild's suitors )

Sounds awesome mate!!

I started diving with my dad when I was 8, and now there is nothing I love more then going on a liveaboard with him and argue about if it was a Pyjama cardinalfish or a Banggai cardinalfish we saw on the previous dive..

Hope you get a lot of happy diving done with your daughters..

Lucky you ... I know they'll have a ball! My daughter started at 15 and loved it. Too many times in school girls have to defend themselves (not meaning physically here) from over-hormoned guys. Even the mentally strong girls feel the effects. Diving is a great equalizer of the sexes, and then some. Women dive without the ninja/commando/navy seal mindset that can be so common among males. The result is they're calm, often have better buoyancy, don't seem to breathe much (compared to me), and are more confident people because of the experience.

I'm going on and on, aren't I? Anyway, enjoy your adventure!

Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement. The girls had a great time last night and all decided they would like to pursue their ow certifications. So it's on!

And oh how this is going to cost me.........
