Slimy, and it tasted like angelfood cake.

I had to run away, but I am very interested in relocating it for a closer look. I had people with me, who were not quite as science minded as I am.
 
It looks like the end is *heavy*.

Really crusted-over monofilament and a fishing weight? Perhaps string?
 
If it's coated with biofilm, it *is* alive.

Alive... with Slime. Goo. Mucilage. Boogers.

Looks bacterial and fungal. Boogers I say.
 
I've seen similar things in the Bahamas I think. I am very curious what it is...
